    1. American Mac And Cheese Recipe

The ultimate comfort food with a meaty twist. Did you know mac and cheese found its solid place in American culture during the Great Depression, but was originally brought over by British settlers?

We’ve tested out so many American-style mac and cheese dishes over the years, but we really love this southern take on the classic from Dinner At The Zoo, that is super quick and easy, and doesn’t require you to prepare a sauce on the hob; so even those who aren’t the best of cooks can still get involved with this one!

If you want to try this recipe, you can check it out here on Dinner At The Zoo’s website!

    2. Vegan Mac And Cheese Recipe

This is one recipe where you won’t find yourself saying, “this is good…. for vegan mac and cheese.” An absolute show-stopping recipe from Make It Dairy Free, which will have your guests unable to tell the difference between regular cheese and the vegan kind. While the pasta is cooking (for the amateur chefs reading, we recommend bringing water to a boil with a drizzle of olive oil and salt before putting your pasta in to cook as per the instructions), you can focus your attention on the vegan cheese sauce.

Make It Dairy Free uses lima beans for the base of the sauce in a blender, adding in vegetable stock, nutritional yeast, vegan cheese, vegan butter, fresh lemon and vegan parmesan cheese. They then top with paprika and pepper, salt and dairy-free milk before blending to combine the ingredients until smooth. Then over medium heat, whisk vegan butter and chickpea flour and thick dairy-free milk (e.g. oat or almond milk, but avoid coconut milk if you can as it will make your sauce too runny). Whisk away until everything is fully combined, then add parmesan, salt, pepper and the homemade vegan cheese sauce made earlier.

For the baked version’s crispy topping, add it to an oven dish and top with breadcrumbs and additional vegan cheese before baking for 15-20 minutes at 350 degrees. If you want a step-by-step guide to cook along to, check out their YouTube tutorial here:

    3. Bacon Mac And Cheese Recipe

Mac and cheese, but make it keto. This mac and cheese recipe from Low Carb Love’s YouTube channel doesn’t actually have pasta in (we know this is going to be a controversial recipe), but the taste of this keto bacon mac and cheese will seriously leave you wanting more and more.

Pasta is substituted for cauliflower, cut into florets and boiled for 6 to 8 minutes (Top tip: you want the cauliflower to be tender when putting a fork in it, but you still want it to be fairly firm as you’ll continue cooking it throughout the rest of the process).

Bacon is sliced and fried, and then the sauce is prepared using the following ingredients: almond milk, whipping cream and soft cream cheese (all whisked together). Once this is combined, stir in dried parsley, garlic powder, chilli powder, and salt and pepper with shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheese. This is then combined with the cauliflower mixture, the bacon folded in and baked in the oven for 18 to 20 minutes with breadcrumbs, butter, parmesan and pork rinds spread over the top.

If you’re not feeling the keto version, you can make this with regular pasta instead of the substituted cauliflower. Check out the finished product in Low Carb Love’s YouTube video below:

    4. Baked Mac And Cheese Recipe

Looking for a beautifully baked mac and cheese with the perfect buttery breadcrumb topping? Look no further than this recipe. RecipeTin Eats’ stunning creamy cheese sauce takes the prize for ease and delivery of a great dish. All you need is a combination of the following: cheese (obviously), butter, breadcrumbs, pasta (elbow pasta is highly recommended, but any short pasta is acceptable), flour, milk and garlic, onion and mustard.

Adding butter to the cooked pasta and stirring it in will help with bloating of the pasta (pasta bloats like us, too!). The butter creates a thin layer of protection which stops the macaroni from absorbing any more liquid while in the oven, which makes bloated, overcooked pasta.

Mix panko breadcrumbs, salt and melted butter together in a separate bowl, and then in a saucepan, add butter and flour with milk. To avoid lumpy sauce, keep stirring to thicken before adding the cheese and pasta to the sauce. Layer in an ovenproof dish, cover with the breadcrumb mix and bake for a heavenly finish.

    5. Lobster Mac And Cheese Recipe

This lobster mac and cheese recipe is definitely one for the boujee bunch amongst us, but if you’re not looking to push the boat out with lobster this time, you can always substitute it for canned crab meat, prawns, or shrimp.

This rich, creamy dish from Spend With Pennies is best served with a side of our cheesy garlic bread and truffle fries from our takeaway in Milton Keynes!

For the best creamy lobster mac and cheese, Spend With Pennies recommends removing the sauce from the heat before stirring in any cheese. She also recommends not cutting corners and, instead of buying grated cheese (as these tend to have added additives and are more difficult to melt), shredding the cheese directly from the block.

    6. Three Cheese Mac And Cheese Recipe

In creating our own signature mac and cheese dish in our restaurant in Milton Keynes, we considered a lot of different cheeses for the perfect flavour and, of course, the iconic cheese pull.

Delish definitely know how to deliver a deli(sh)ious dish, and they don’t disappoint with their three-cheese golden mac and cheese recipe. The cheeses in question for this particular recipe? A creative combination of cheddar, gruyere and parmesan, topped with breadcrumbs and baked until bubbly and golden on top (baked for around 25 to 30 minutes at 190 degrees). This dish can be kept as it is for those after a vegetarian option, or you can add in your choice of meat or seafood.

    7. Cajun Mac and Cheese Recipe

Spice things up in the kitchen with this tantalising cajun mac and cheese recipe, another fan favourite from Delish!

This zesty pasta recipe incorporates green onions, cajun, cheddar and Monterrey Jack cheese, bell peppers, andouille sausage, and even medium shrimp tails to satisfy your cravings. If we were going to pimp up this particular recipe ourselves though, we would definitely make it more of a tablespoon of cajun (rather than the recommended teaspoon) for that extra kick, along with 1 teaspoon of paprika and salt and pepper to taste! We’re all for trial and error in adjusting our recipes for the perfect flavour punch.
